静静是古代文献中的一位姑娘。《诗》中“静女其姝”说的就是她了。不过静静这个称呼，大概可以追溯到《礼记》中《大学》一篇。其中的文字是这样的：

知止，而后有定定，而后能静静，而后能安安，而后能虑虑，而后能得。

《金陵生小言》（桂林：广西师范大学出版社，2004年）

中读到的，转眼已经八年多了。蒋寅先生在讨论中引述了一位学者的看法。他认为这个文本，句末夺一得字，就是说最后应该是“而后能得得”，仿佛觉得“得得”是第五位姑娘。这种理解显然是不对的。因为《古兰经》说：“……你们可以择你们爱悦的女人，各娶两妻、三妻、四妻；如果你们恐怕不能公平地待遇她们，那末，你们只可以各娶一妻……”这里的“各娶两妻、三妻、四妻”，和而后能静静、安安、虑虑差不多是一个意思。换而言之，先圣早就教导我们，四个姑娘是好的。怎么还能有一个叫“得得”的姑娘呢？蒋寅先生讲的这位学者，还提出了另一种可能的句读法，大体是这样的：

知止而后有：定定而后能，静静而后能，安安而后能，虑虑而后能，得。

按照这位学者的理解，句末衍了一个“得”字……于是他就困惑了，《大学》这段话，到底是夺一字还是衍一字呢？其实，只要他明白了这里说得是姑娘，就会发现虽然句读有所不同，但基本精神还是一样的。第一分句中的“有”，就是存在的意思，相当于海德格尔哲学中的Sein，也就是英文中的being。通俗地说，这段话是讲，有了住的地方以后，就是一种存在的状态了，可以有很多很多。有些什么呢？有定定、静静、安安、虑虑这四位姑娘呀。句末的“得”，是总结全句，表示这些都得到了。今天广东话中，还会有“得”来表示“好的”，不行就说“唔得”，也是源自古典文献的用法——就像“问渠那得清如许”中的“渠”不是水渠的意思，就是现在广东话中的“佢”，是人称代词“他”的意思。于是，大家一定要问了：为什么平时要说想静静呢？而不是想定定、安安、虑虑这几位姑娘？原因可能和另一个人有关。我们知道，在汉朝的建兴、延熙年间，有一位很伟大的思想家叫王弼。他在注《周易·复卦》时说：

凡动息则静静，非对动者也；语息则默默，非对语者也。

以前人们说，这段话反应了朴素的辩证法思想。这是乱讲。这大概是说，他做事累了，就想和静静在一起——静静这个姑娘，不是那种要一直为她做事的人；他说话累了，就想和默默在一起——默默这个姑娘，不是那种要一直陪她说话的人。默默，今人也写作陌陌，那是后话。所以，自那时候开始开始，人们就开始说，“我想静静，我真的在想静静！”如果静静这个名字反映了男权社会下对女性的规约，“我想静静”则体现了男权时代下男性的一种疲惫。这大概也是“我想静静”比较流行的原因。
